Gnosis

Fathers of the early Churches around the Mediterranean would work to stifle the message of the Gnostics: a theory that religious authority was not required to Know oneself. Gnosis saw spirituality as an endemic, universal, and simply human experience in an era when militant faith groups endeavored to split and subjugate.
